The pebble crusher operating philosophy involving a maximum crusher specific energy to maximise the product fineness involves another important constraint apart from motor power, namely crusher adjustment ring bounce.
The operating philosophy inplace at Telfer hence involves a strategy in which the close side setting is minimised to allow for the maximum sustainable crusher power to be drawn without causing adjustment ring bounce. If adjustment ring bounce is allowed to occur then excessive maintenance costs will be incurred and crusher availability willbe low. Telfer is in the process of installing a trial accelerometer for measuring adjustment ring bounce.
The quantitative measure-ment of adjustment ring bounce will alleviate maintenance concerns associated with operating close to the point where adjustment ring bounce can occur. If adjustment ring bounce is detected the feed rate can be automatically reduced and/or the operator notified to increase the operating close side setting.
