The crusher product size distribution is dependent on the specific energy applied to the pebbles during the crushing process. To quantify the effect of the pebble crusher closed side setting on the specific energy, tests were conducted at constant throughput rates whilst the crusher close side setting was varied.
Figure 1 illustrates the influence of crusher close side setting on the crusher specific energy at a throughput rate of 385±10 t/h. Data collection took place over a number of months and therefore includes variations caused by differences in feed material and liner wear profiles. The close side setting indicated is the narrowest close side setting measurement (mm) obtained from four equidistant positions around the crusher.
An inverse linear correlation is evident between the crusher close side setting and the crusher specific energy, with the pebble crusher specific energy increasing with a decrease in close side setting.
